Embrace Pain: Transforming Challenges into Growth

I am sitting in a place of reflection. I can’t help but think that we’ve all been taught to lean AWAY from pain. Instead, we should lean toward it. Duh, right? What if I challenge that thought right now and help you change your life? Read on brave soul!

As babies we are born into a world that is instantly overstimulating- consuming and inundating ALL of our senses. As toddlers we are told things like “watch out”, “eh- that will hurt you”, or in some cases, “no-no! That’s hot. It will hurt you”. Sound about, right? Yeah, as we continue to grow and make our way through the world, we learn to avoid pain. We subconsciously walk around with a set of rules. These rules update each time we experience pain. The greatest computer ever is our brain. Its sole purpose is to keep us alive. This is so we can finish OUR purpose. Yet, we are constantly teaching it new ways to make changes all for the purpose of keeping us “comfortable”.

We often limit ourselves to a life of limitations by keeping “comfortable.” The truth is, we are building resilience every day. If we challenge ourselves to do the “hard thing,” we can lean into the pain. Eventually, we manage to see that our pain has been useful in our own evolution. It can also be useful in the future. So today, I challenge you to stop. Think of ONE area of your life that is limited because of pain.

Now, find 3 specific action steps you can take to bravely APPROACH your pain. Make sure these steps are measurable and realistic. These steps should be attainable today and help you unlock a new skill you didn’t even know you had!
