Are you the “strong” friend?

Let’s have some REAL talk. How many of us are the strong friend? The one that people go to when they are having a hard time. Maybe people just find themselves sharing their life’s struggles with you or they come to you for advice? It’s truly a blessing to be the trusted strong friend, but this is a PSA to check on your strong friends. While you may be the only one approaching them in the moment, there are likely more people who are pulling on them as well.

Let’s normalize genuinely checking in on people before we pour our stuff on them? Consider the emotional bandwidth of the person you’re talking to. This means their ability to handle what you’re sharing.

If you ARE the strong friend, i want to introduce you to your OWN needs. Yes, ensuring your own needs are met will better help you tend to others, if you are supposed to. There is hope for us because we don’t have to carry the burden around. We can share it with others and we can drop it off in prayer.

Enjoyed reading your blog. Especially the strong friend and being wise when deciding on how to process your feelings about what is being said. When I worked at the VA, I talked to many people who had terrible experiences and ended up with PTSD. Time spent hearing those stories resulted in me getting Secondary PTSD. The good news is I had plenty of support and treatment options I could use on myself. The most powerful tool was my faith and belief in a loving God who has a plan and purpose for our trials in life. I don’t belief He causes our troubles, diseases and stress. (Remember we also have an enemy). He fights our battles and teaches us when we need to know when the time comes. It’s a great faith builder to see Him in action. Barb L.
